May ’20-present: Columbus, OH  (Remote during Covid-19 Pandemic) – Design website changes and work with IT to implement these changes in the best way possible. Big projects include major design changes to help improve SEO on the site, as well as improved the widget designs on the site to target new subscribers.

July ’10-present: Columbus, OH & Telecommute – Manage, design and/or develop web sites for clients, using HTML/CSS or WordPress Content Management System. Includes Front-End, Back-End, Full-Stack Development, UX Design and Usability, SEO, site security, virus protection, social media integration and HTML e-mail design and integration. I do graphic design as well as code, including avatars, logos, wireframing and anything in PhotoShop and Illustrator.

Jan.-Dec. 2017: Athens, OH – Teaching Grad and Undergrad students at the college level

    VICO 3173, 5173: Interactive Media III (WordPress), Spring Semester, 2017, Students gained experience and knowledge through practical exercises on WordPress CMS, child theming, UX, Front-end Design and Back-end Design. Students expanded their skills with HTML/CSS and PHP. The class took responsive design to the next level.

    VICO 1014: Intro to Visual Communication (Design), Fall Semester, 2017, Students will gain considerable experience and knowledge through practical exercises on basic design principles: Color, Typography, Spacing, Shape, Size, Contrast, Balance, Alignment, Unity, Hierarchy, Consistency, White Space and Proximity.

Ohio Wesleyan University, On-site Web Consultant

Aug.-Nov. 2015: Delaware, OH – (3-month contract) Assisted the University Communications Department to plan and implement final website redesign. Also helped manage a variety of other misc. designer web-related projects, including setting up training, leading training sessions, documentation, front-end design and usability, touch-screen display presentation, etc. Redesign contracted with Fastspot.com, using BigTree.com, proprietary content management system.

Microsoft Corporation, Trends Photo Editor

Jan.-Aug. 2015: Columbus, OH (Remote) – (1-year contract, Aquent) Manage, select and edit images for the Trends Bar along the bottom of Bing.com and completed misc. photo requests that came up. Worked regular editoral shifts remotely.

Dec. 2008-Dec. 2009: Redmond, WA – (1-year contract) Media Acquisitions Department. Manage, select and edit images for various incoming requests from internal Microsoft departments, including MSN.com and Bing.com.

July-Aug. 2008: Redmond, WA – (8-week contract) Multimedia Team, Manage, select and edit images for ‘Daily Emotional Moments’ slideshow throughout 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Also, manage, select and edit images for MSNBC.com home page, NBCSports.com pages and Olympics-related coverage for TodayShow.com. Create slideshows for breaking news, including 2008 Democratic National Convention.

    News IT: Assistant Systems Editor, Answer phones and solve problems on Newsroom HelpDesk, specializing in Macintosh, pagination and production issues. Also wrote documentation on procedure and instructions for various jobs and duties, with regards to technology.

Jan. 1998-Sept. 1999: Akron, OH – Manage and launch an Arts & Entertainment website for Northeast Ohio, including Cleveland, Akron & Canton. (Akron Beacon Journal website) Plan and implement the design and organization of the site with a staff of one (besides myself). Also led several special projects, such as the Beacon Journal’s first online charity auction, the Home & Garden Show website and the department’s presentation to rest of the company (done in Macromedia Flash).

Feb. 1997-Jan. 1998: Orlando, FL – Design News & Features sections for newspaper on a daily deadline. Also produce the online sections of the website (A1, Local, Features, Business & Sports), including editing and creating video, audio, graphics, weather maps, polls, and other interactive media to tell and enhance the stories.
